Jessica Carbino is a Ph.D. student in sociology at UCLA. She currently works for Tinder and is using her skills in sociology to try and understand what people are really looking for when using the software. See an article in LA Magazine here.

To date Tinder has processed over 10 billion right swipes have been processed and around 75% of the users are between 18 and 34. Recently, Tinder launched a tiered subscription service charging those over 30 a $20 monthly fee (and those younger, $10 … interesting don’t you think?) for the privilege of undoing an accidental left swipe and the ability to search for prospects in other cities.

For sociologists, the emergence of Tinder is fascinating… for many, many reasons.
